Gifts and Donations

There Is No Greater Gift Than Friendship

For thousands of people throughout Southwest Florida, the Friendship Centers are a lifeline for vital services: health and dental care, nutritious meals, social services, adult day services, and caregiver support. Sooner or later, there comes a time when the circle of Friendship inspires a desire to give back. As a private, nonprofit organization, Friendship Centers' facilities, programs and services are built and made possible with the support of individual gifts and donations. While we receive some governmental funding, we simply would not be able to do what we do without your support. We recognize each gift is as personal and individual as the donor making it. For information on how your gift makes a difference, contact the Development Office at 941.556.3253.

Help a Friend in Need in Your Community

Every single day at the Friendship Centers, we experience moments that remind us of the true power of what we do. Whether we are delivering meals to homebound seniors, giving respite for weary caregivers, providing critical medical assistance, or simply offering an opportunity for social engagement and personal growth, we are creating life-changing moments for friends in need. Can we count on you to help? Your gift will change a life.

Your support today will help seniors in need in the communities we serve. We have six offices in five counties, and every one of them has a heartwarming story to tell.

Audrey Guenther

Sarasota

Audrey Guenther dropped her husband off at the Living Room Adult Day program in Sarasota, and had a few precious hours to herself. "I would have had a nervous breakdown if it weren’t for the Friendship Centers," she recalls. Now age 94 and on her own, she volunteers five days a week. "Without the Friendship Centers, I would be very lonely."
People served each year: 5,200.

Constance Spaulding

Venice

Constance Spaulding had lost her hearing. Thanks to a grant from The Community Foundation of the Venice Golf and Country Club, the Friendship health Services gave it back. "It feels wonderful to actually hear the water running and the telephone ring! I am so grateful to Venice Friendship Center Health Services – they have changed my life!"
People served each year: 2,500.

Respite in the Lives of Everyday Families

Lee County

Carol and Arlene have formed a true bond of friendship through the RELIEF program, an acronym for Respite in the Lives of Everyday Families. "When Arlene walks through the door, we both say, 'Here’s our angel'," exclaims Carol. "She does so many things for us without being asked. She listens and lifts me up between visits."
People served each year: 3,000.

Friendship at Home Program

Charlotte County

Our Friendship at Home program reaches isolated, lonely and homebound seniors who often don't have a family member or friend to advocate for them. World War II vet Lloyd Harris counts on volunteer Sheila Kinnery to give him a hand. He says, "Sheila is an absolute doll. Because of her, I can stay in my home."
People served each year: 350.

Friendship Health Clinic

Collier County

The Senior Friendship Health Center is a true life-saver. When Candace Brown lost her job and got sick, she had no health insurance. "I just ignored it and I got worse," she recalls. "Then I found the Senior Friendship Health Center and they said, 'we're going to fix you up.' And they did." Candace believes she might not be alive today without our help.
People served each year: 1,000.

Stories like these are a validation of the work we do, and a tribute to the many dedicated volunteers who make it possible. The demand for services has never been greater. To continue to do our work, we need your help. Thank you -- from the bottom of our hearts!

Remembering SFC's Founder

Brother William Geenen, CSC

Brother William Geenen

In 1973 Brother William Geenen's vision of a network of services to help older adults live with dignity and respect formed the foundation for Senior Friendship Centers. Today, that dream is a reality thanks to the support of caring people working together to make make The Friendship Centers a reality. His legacy lives on through the Brother William Geenen Fund of The Friendship Centers' Foundation.

Sarasota Herald Tribune journalist Kathy Silverberg of The Friendship Centers' Board of Governors, reflects on what was accomplished as a result of his leadership, to improve the quality of life for many thousands of older adults in her editorial: Brother Geenen's Gift to the Community Keeps on Giving.

Volunteers Share Time & Talent

Often, giving back begins with volunteering. It can mean sharing your talent -- teaching a class, volunteering at our clinics, delivering meals to the homebound, or any of hundreds of opportunities in the communities we serve. And it often leads to a financial gift to ensure programs and services that mean so much to your life, or the life of someone you love, will continue. [ Volunteer ]

Donors Share Treasure

Gifts to Senior Friendship Centers are as diverse as the people we serve. They come from the hearts of individuals and families who are touched by our programs and those who discover this simple truth: in helping others, we help ourselves.
