"Volunteering keeps me active, passes the time and allows me to use my lifetime experience talents," says Doug Dyal. Doug has been a volunteer at the Friendship Centers DeSoto in Arcadia, for four years, and is a perfect example of "People Helping People."
"Doug is a willing helping hand for whatever needs to be done," said Center Director Karen Blanchette. "From moving boxes and setting up to sweeping and sorting, he was always there to help when we moved to our downtown location.
Now he comes to the Center twice a week, helping wherever needed, and always making sure the outdoor plants are watered.
Hundreds of DeSoto families remember Doug as a coach for Senior League Baseball (13-15 year olds) for 12 years.
Prior to retirement, Doug's career included 34 years at local lumber yards, 8 years at an irrigation supply company, plus doing construction on his own.
When not volunteering, Doug and his wife, , who also volunteers at the Friendship Centers Desoto, enjoy spending time with their family: three sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
"Thank you Doug, for all your help, especially the beautiful blooms for all to enjoy," says Blanchette.
