Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is recognizing Lee County’s Friendship Centers as a PSC Helping Hand for helping raise public awareness about the Lifeline Assistance telephone discount program, energy and water conservation, and utility impersonation scams.
“We appreciate the Friendship Centers’ assistance in hosting our recent PSC events for Older Americans Month, where we shared information to educate and protect their clientele,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “Nutrition Services Manager Maria Kolessar partnered with us to help distribute our Lifeline, scam protection, and conservation materials to those seniors who can most benefit from the information.”
Begun in 2013, each month the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline program and/or need help reducing energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares vital information to help consumers stretch their resources to meet their monthly bills.
“We enjoyed working with the PSC during Older Americans Month and are pleased and honored to be recognized as a Helping Hand,” said Ms. Kolessar. “The Alliance works diligently for our seniors to live independently, and we appreciate the PSC’s outreach visits to help our clients save money in their everyday lives.”
