The Friendship Centers has outfitted its activity center in Sarasota with specially-ordered matching café tables and chairs and sturdy easy chairs and coffee tables, courtesy of a recent $42,000 grant from the Harry Sudakoff Foundation. The final delivery of furnishings has arrived, completing the transformation of the main building’s furnishings.
“We went through a very intricate process to make sure that the monies were used for the most attractive yet durable furnishings for the center,” Said Sue Firestone, director of programs with the Friendship Centers. “Not only is the furniture beautiful to look at, it is comfortable, easy to clean, and can be moved out of the way for events more easily than our existing, tired furniture,” Firestone added. “We are so appreciative of this generous grant from the Harry Sudakoff Foundation and are thrilled to show off the completed facelift.”
The new furniture is made of light colored wood-like materials and the café chairs and easy chairs were chosen specifically to coordinate with one another in shades of calming beiges and blues. The cafe tables are very versatile, featuring wheels for ease of moving and also come with a tilt-top ability, allowing the tables to by moved and stacked during events and other activities in the center.
The Harry Sudakoff Foundation was founded by Harry Sudakoff, a successful builder who lived in New York until relocating to Sarasota in the 1960s. The foundation was started in New York, but was transformed into a Florida foundation in 1993. The foundation today grants funding mostly to Sarasota organizations in need.
