From the Football Field to Real-Life: Venice Friendship Centers’ Fundraiser April 13 Highlights Coach Broyles’ Playbook for Alzheimer’s Caregivers; Proceeds benefit the Caregiver Resource Center and Adult Day Services
A handy little spiral bound book called Coach Broyles Playbook for Alzheimer’s Caregivers, written by former football player and coach John Broyles, the winning-est coach in the history of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, and his daughter, Betsy Arnold, has become a popular resource for a growing number of family caregivers. The Playbook is based on their experience in caring for wife and mother, Barbara Broyles. The Playbook is an easy to use compilation of practical tips and information that caregivers can use to address everyday situations.
On Saturday, April 13, Betsy Arnold, who now heads the Frank and Barbara Broyles Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Alzheimer’s sufferers and their families, will introduce caregivers to the Playbook at a special fundraiser for Senior Friendship Centers’ Caregiver Resource Center and Adult Day program in Venice. The program runs from 1- 3 p.m. at The Kathleen Catlin Friendship Center in Venice. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Limited respite care is available. For information call 941.584.0071.

Caregiving is one of the greatest challenges and opportunities most of us experience in a lifetime. Belonging to a support group can be a lifeline on this journey.
Each week Paula Falk, director of the Caregiver Resource Center at Senior Friendship Centers in Sarasota, Florida, moderates a support group of caregivers dealing with the challenges of Alzheimer's. She's helped to provide guidance and a constant reminder to each member that they're not alone, that it's okay to feel frustrated, sad, even angry, but to not lose sight of their own health and mental wellness.
Many members of this support group have become good friends and provide a support network. Now, we want to share what we've learned in a series of short podcasts, each one about a tip to help you stay focused on your own health and well-being as well as the loved one you're caring for..
Skip Cohen is the moderator of the program. He and his father are caregivers for his mother, who has Alzheimer's. They attend a weekly support group facilitated by Paula Falk at the Friendship Centers Caregiver Resource Center. A new program in the "Ten Minutes With Paula" series is released every ten days.
