The organization is participating in The Patterson Foundation’s Margin & Mission Ignition initiative to implement an earned-income strategy to strengthen its Adult Day Service
SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2016) – The Friendship Centers, a nonprofit organization serving seniors and the SW Florida community for more than 40 years, will receive a match from The Patterson Foundation to jumpstart its efforts to augment an entrepreneurial earned-income plan for its caregiving center and adult day service. Funds contributed to the organization by Jan. 31, 2017, will be matched dollar for dollar by The Patterson Foundation up to 50 percent of its startup/growth capital requirement –up to $50,000. Pledges, in-kind contributions and debt funding will not be matched.
The earned-income plan was developed during the Friendship Centers participation in Margin & Mission Ignition, an initiative of The Patterson Foundation designed to embed long-term earned-income strategies and models within nonprofits in our region. The Friendship Centers is one of three organizations that chose to work on a second earned-income project through this initiative. Throughout the earned-income planning process, the organization received extensive consultation on revenue-generating strategies from No Margin, No Mission, a social enterprise and national consulting firm engaged by The Patterson Foundation on this initiative.
“We are thankful to The Patterson Foundation for choosing the Friendship Centers to participate in this initiative,” said Erin McLeod, Friendship Centers president and CEO. “It’s a great opportunity to expand our services in the caregiving and adult day services space, and gives the community a way to help us achieve that goal through donating to the Friendship Centers by the end of January.”
The Friendship Centers licensed adult day service and caregiver support groups provided 97,904 hours of care to 241 clients in 2015 through the adult day programs in its Sarasota, Venice and Ft. Myers campuses. Part of the matching funds will go towards expanding the visibility of the Friendship Centers adult day services through new marketing efforts. The organization also plans to increase its offerings with expanded hours and other value-added services.
The organization shared its earned-income plan with potential investors during a recent fast-pitch-style event presented by The Patterson Foundation. To date, The Patterson Foundation has invested $92,845 in efforts to help The Friendship Centers develop and expand earned-income strategies. With the success of the match, The Patterson Foundation will have contributed $750,000 benefiting more than a dozen nonprofit organizations over the past two years through the Margin & Mission Ignition initiative.
“These organizations have each chosen to undertake an additional earned-income endeavor,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “They are applying what they learned to a new project that aligns with their mission, capacity and culture. Early mission investors have the opportunity to double their impact with this match.”
