Our award-winning senior centers in Sarasota and Venice are models for the rest of the country. These bustling activity centers are great places to exercise, learn a new language, dance, play cards, create art, make music and learn new ways to age well. It’s a place that creates community and cuts through the loneliness and isolation that often afflicts older adults.
Vicki Dworski has been a big fan of the Sarasota Friendship Center since she and her husband started coming to the workout room for some exercise. “One day I observed a class and the teacher invited me to join in, and that was it,” says Vicki. “I love the Rhythm & Moves fitness class because it’s so much fun, the music is great, and it’s a terrific group of people. I’m a member of the Center and I try to get to the class twice a week.”
She also participates in a lively current affairs discussion group that meets once a week. Vicki’s involvement with the Sarasota Friendship Center now extends to her role as a volunteer. She works the reception desk and also greets people at the Balance Movement classes. “I smile a lot,” says Vicki. “I just enjoy being here and helping folks. It’s such a terrific place.”
