Sarasota and Venice – A $50,000 grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation will update and support technology for educational and wellness programs at the Friendship Centers in Sarasota and Venice. It will be used to purchase 32 laptop computers and 80 desktop computers.
Mr. and Mrs. Selby created their private foundation in 1955. They were interested in long-lasting endeavors that were well regarded and made a positive impact in the community. Today, over five decades later, their legacy continues to enhance our area as a result of more than $94 million in grants and scholarships given to nearly 400 organizations and over a thousand students. The Friendship Centers’ mission is “To promote health, dignity and quality of life throughout the journey of aging.” For more than four decades this organization has served persons 50 and older with programs and services which include medical and dental clinics, activity centers, lifelong learning, meals at our centers and delivered to the homebound, caregiver support, adult day services, supportive aging services and volunteer opportunities.
